Riddle Sets of Ten

Ten hardwood tokens engraved with riddles and answers. To play: flip over one riddle. On the back of one of the other nine riddles is the answer. Continue until all riddles have been solved. Each set is in a muslin drawstring bag with an answer key in a small envelope.

Roman Riddles

Ten riddles dating from the 6th c. ACE. Played as an “after dinner game” during the Roman festival of Saturnalia celebrated in the last half of December. Each token includes the original Latin as well as the English translation. The answer key is included in the bag.

Research leads me into marvelous corners of folklore, including riddles. One riddle may have dozens of variations as it travels with culture across time and geography. I’ve chosen ten riddles and cited the origin as an added point of geekery. The answer key is included in the bag.
