Coptic-Stitch Codex
Coptic-Stitch Codex
This is a Coptic-stitch book, hand-sewn with strong thread made from Irish waxed linen. It has 130 pages and has sturdy wooden covers. The covers are about 6.75 inches tall and 4.75 inches wide. The spine is around 2 inches thick, but it can vary depending on the paper and thread used. The covers are designed to look like marbled maplewood and the colors are based on images taken by NASA satellites and telescopes.
This type of binding is loved by artists, left-handed people, and those who enjoy keeping a journal because it allows the book to stay open flat. Different kinds of paper are used for the pages:
White paper: Mohawk Superfine 80# eggshell. It's great for writing and drawing with pencil and pen. If you use a permanent marker, ink may bleed through the page.
Natural paper: Lokta Handmade, cream color, light 20 gm. It's good for pencil writing, but there may be some bleed-through if you use a pen or permanent marker.
Black paper: Hahnemuhle Ingres Black, 90 gsm. It's excellent for charcoal, gel pens, colored pencils, chalk, and conte crayon.
